Rich obtained an associates degree in Ag-Business from the Des Moines Area Community College and began a career working for grain elevators in Marion and Jasper Counties which spanned from 1975-1985. He entered the real estate business in 1985, become a licensed broker and owned the Iowa Realty Franchise in Knoxville, Iowa from 1986-1991. Rich started appraising in 1986 and obtained his Certified General license in 1992 and is now serving a three year appointment on the Iowa Appraiser Board until April 2007. Rich is owner and manager of De Heer & Associates, LLC which has three full time and three contract appraisers. He and his wife, Patty, have three children, two beloved grandchildren, raise Hereford and Black Angus cattle, own and operate a 280 acre farm in southern Iowa.
